About Us

Northern California Harari Association (NCHA) is an organization dedicated to preserving the cultural, religious and historical integrity of the Harari diaspora in San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA. We are a dynamic of Harari-American's and Canadians living in the SF Bay Area who are of Harari descent. In addition to preserving the cultural, religious and historical integrity of our people we care about the environment, peacekeeping, volunteering, education and networking in all industries and communities.

Harari, officially Harari People's National Regional State, is one of the nine ethnically-based regional states of Ethiopia, covering the homeland of the Harari people. It's capital is Harar. The Harari people (Arabic: هراري‎, Harari: ሐረሪ), also called Geyusu (Harari: ጌይኡሱእ) ("People of the City"), are an ethnic group inhabiting the Horn of Africa. Members traditionally reside in the city of Harar, situated in the Harari Region of eastern Ethiopia. They speak Harari, or gey'sinan, a member of the Ethiosemitic within the Afroasiatic family.
